Black Watch Essay Essays

Black Watch Essay Essays Black Watch Essay Essay Black Watch Essay Essay A watch is nothing more than a time keeper or a fashion statement, but my watch is something important to me. It was a gift from my dad to keep track of time during the SHSAT. When I took the SHSAT it felt like my dad was with me throughout the test. I had it for almost a year now. I don’t leave my house without it. I remember when I was taking the SHSAT, I was really nervous. There were a lot of students around me and a teacher at the front of the room. There were a lot of questions I got stuck on; it was like my mind suddenly went blank. So I looked at my watch and thought about what my dad would say if he was here. Now I look back and say that I couldn’t pass the test if it wasn’t for the watch. This watch has been a part of my life ever since. My watch is black like a storm night and it has a metal ring around its face. On the shiny black face behind the glass cover there is a hour hand and a minute hand. The hands move slowly like a snail. On the bottom of the face there are two grey circles with digital interface. The middle circle has a digital clock and the other two circles keeps track of the seconds, which ticks constantly. The bumpy band has 11 small holes to assist in locking the watch to your wrist. There are also 4 buttons that looks like square erasers, the light button turns on the light immediately. The blue light of the watch is as beautiful as the color of the ocean.

International Business Strategies in Action Assignment - 2

International Business Strategies in Action - Assignment Example McDonald’s decided to penetrate the Chinese fast food market in the year 1992 by establishing the company’s store in Shenzhen and later in Beijing which was the world’s largest fast food retail outlet owned by the company. The objective of McDonald’s in expanding internationally was evidently to attain competitive advantage in the international market gaining the opportunities rendered by other economies such as China. For instance, China has been witnessed to be one of the fastest growing economies in terms of population, customer demand and technology since the 1990s. It is in this context that DeWit & Meyer stated the organisational purpose or mission to play a significant role in influencing the internationalisation strategies of a company. The organisational purpose of McDonald’s is depicted through its mission statement, i.e. â€Å"Plan to Win†. Through its mission statement, the company has always focused on deriving superior customer satisfaction, sustainable growth, along with the continuous development of its operations and enhancement of customers’ experiences as competitive advantages.... atement, the company has always focused on deriving superior customer satisfaction, sustainable growth, along with the continuous development of its operations and enhancement of customers’ experiences as competitive advantages (McDonald’s, 2011). However, in relation to McDonald’s entry in China, the prime objective of the company can be witnessed to attain a competitive advantage in terms of differentiation with due concern to the increasing competition of the global market. For instance, McDonald’s in its entry strategies fundamentally focused on the consumer demand of China in relation to American fast food items with the sole intention to differentiate its products from that of its competitors not only in the Chinese market but in the global market as well (Luo, 2000). Therefore, it was quite likely that the entry strategies adopted by the company were likely to be influenced by the external environmental factors of the then Chinese economy. 3.0 Situa tional Analysis: PESTLE Analysis of China 3.1 Political Environment In the early 1990s, the political system of China was recorded to be under significant change from the Confucian statecraft towards Marxism point-of-view. It was during this period that the Chinese economy was concentrating on mobilisation and was opening up to the external world that in turn gave rise to various political issues (Shambaugh & Et. Al., 2000). 3.2 Economic Environment China’s growth during the period was observed as outstanding in the global market. During the 1990s, China witnessed rapid growth in terms of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) earning as depicted in the chart below. Figure 1. China’s GDP in 1990s Source: (Flores & Et. Al., 2003). However, the GDP growth rate of the economy was observed to be highly fluctuating

Gender and Sex Worksheet Essay Example for Free

Gender and Sex Worksheet Essay What is gender? What is sex in biological terms? Are gender and sex the same thing? Explain why or why not? Gender is a subclass within a grammatical class (as noun, pronoun, adjective, or verb) of a language that is partly arbitrary but also partly based on distinguishable characteristics (as shape, social rank, manner of existence, or sex) and that determines agreement with and selection of other words or grammatical forms (Merriam-Webster). Biological term for sex is ones biological classification as male or female which is set into motion at the moment the sperm ertilizes the egg (Intro To Sociology, 2009). Gender and Sex in my opinion are not the same. Sex refers to the biological and physiological characteristics that define men and women, gender refers to the socially constructed roles, behaviors, activities, and attributes that a given society considers appropriate for men and women. How do gender and sex contribute to the concepts and constructions of masculinity and femininity? According to Planned Parenthood Federation of America Inc (2013), â€Å"Culture determines gender roles and what is masculine and feminine. What does it mean to be a woman or man? Whether we are women or men is not determined just by our sex organs. Our gender includes a complex mix of beliefs, behaviors, and characteristics. How do you act, talk, and behave like a woman or man? Are you feminine or masculine, both, or neither? These are questions that help us get to the core of our gender and gender identity. † Do our concepts of gender and sex contribute to the ways we embrace gender and sex in diversity? Yes, I do feel that our concepts of gender and sex contribute to the ways we embrace gender and sex in diversity. I feel that we look at males as the ones who are supposed to be the readwinner, the rough and tough kind of person and we look at females as the ones who are supposed to be the sweet and kind caregiver at home taking care of the house and kids and being the emotional one, when it can be the other way around. Do our concepts of gender and sex contribute to our understanding of sexual orientation? Explain. Yes, I feel that our concepts of gender and sex contribute to our understanding of sexual orientation in many ways. We have a understanding of what each gender is and what they provide, causing us to make a decision on who we want to be with in life.

The Short And Happy Life Of Francis Macomber :: essays research papers

In the short story The Short and Happy Life of Francis Macomber, there are three main characters, Mr. Wilson, Mr. Francis Macomber, and Mrs. Margaret Macomber, who are on an African Safari together. There are also three animals repeatedly mentioned throughout the story, which each represents a main character. The animals are a lion, a buffalo, and an impala.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Mr. Macomber, who is â€Å"very tall, very well built† and â€Å"considered handsome,† is on a safari with his wife. While on the safari he goes and hunts a lion. After wounding it with his gun, he becomes too afraid to go and finish the lion off, so he runs like a little baby. Mr. Macomber is later known as a coward so he best relates to the impala in the story. The impala is a beautiful animal and very skinny and sleek. When the impala were shot at, they ran super fast and when Mr. Wilson feels the fear of the lion he runs just as fast. Also when his wife shoots him in the head towards the end of the story, the bullet goes right to his head. When Mr. Macomber shoots the impala the bullet goes right to its head and the impala dies immediately just as he did.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Mrs. Macomber, who is Mr. Macomber’s wife, started out in the story seeming like a normal lady. Later on it was obvious she did not care for her husband and was extremely rude to him. She should be related to the buffalo in this story, because she is very strong. She is running away from Macomber but at the same time she is chasing him and wants him dead. She is hard to get rid of and won’t give up until she has the last word.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Mr. Wilson, who is the Safari guide, best relates to the lion in this story because he is very brave. He is very respected and not afraid of any of the other animals. The way the story describes the â€Å"majestic† animal is how Wilson is described to be by Margaret.

Benefiting from Learning About the Flaws of People

Benefiting from learning about the flaws of people they respect or admire. Usually it just so happen that we people are young they tend to have a lot of heroes, or someone they respect or admire. They soon learn when they grow up that these people they have admired for so long have flaws just like anyone else. Leaving them feeling disappointed or upset, but what they don’t know is that learning about these flaws can be beneficial to them. People benefit from learning about the flaws of people they respect or admire. What they soon learn is that people make mistakes, no one is perfect.Including those they may look up to the most, for example their parents. Their parents are the ones who teach them right from wrong, and so the kids may expect their parents to go by this as well. Most of the times the kids are disappointed to find out their parents aren’t perfect either. After that, they either chose to make the same mistake or chose to learn from it. â€Å"Monkey see, mo nkey do. † It can even be beneficial coming from someone they don’t even know. It could be someone who sang their favorite song, or stared on their favorite TV show. For a kid to have a celebrity as an idol is very common.Celebrities are people just like us so they are going to make mistakes; it is how they deal with the problem that’s beneficial. But because they are famous, everyone can see their mistake. People can also benefit to one’s peers. Watching someone they love or admire, make a mistake than learn from it, is extremely beneficial. They can accept that person for who they are and become more mature. It is very important that we learn at a young age that no one is perfect, and they can’t always set high expectations for everyone. Especially if they set the expectations for someone they have known all their life.Everyone’s has flaws and they should be expected. â€Å"There are no mistakes, no coincidences. All events are blessings g iven to us to learn from. † It is not always good to have an admirer that makes mistake and they follow but don’t ever learn from. It important to, grasps it, learn from it, and consider it a blessing. Don’t be disappointed if their hero wakes up one morning and brushes his teeth with ice hot instead of tooth paste. Instead, always look up to what they admire about them, and try to relate to it.
